Reiki
Reiki (pronounced “Ray–Key”), meaning universal life energy, is a form of healing popularised in Japan. It is thought to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago. It was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist in the late 1800s. It has since been adapted by many teachers of various traditions. It uses a technique commonly called palm healing or hands-on healing, which is thought to be similar to the method used by Jesus, as described in the bible.
It is a natural and simple healing method which allows you to absorb more life energy – the energy that flows through all living things. It vitalises your life force and balances the energies within your body, which promotes healing.
The natural healing energy flows in a powerful and concentrated form through the hands of the practitioner. The laying-on of hands directs the healing energy into the body of the receiver. The practitioner is used as a channel to conduct the universal life energy. As a result, no personal energy is drawn or drained from the practitioner, who at the same time also receives the benefits.
Reiki can literally be used to help with absolutely anything, on anyone, at any age. Any condition, aliment, disease, or issue can be helped. Reiki is especially good for people with pain that is far too tender to touch and cannot be treated with massage, or for whom undressing causes discomfort. It can also be used to clear stagnant energy from people, homes, or places of work. Pets and plants also respond well – as do all living things.
Most people find a Reiki treatment extremely relaxing and feel much calmer and at peace by the end; some feel more balanced, energised, and refreshed. Many come for this reason alone; just to take time for themselves away from busy everyday life. Others come for an energy cleansing after a negative experience, as it helps clear non-serving energy and raises your body’s natural frequency and vibration. Whatever your reason for a treatment, Reiki always creates a beneficial effect.
A full Reiki treatment involves hand positions around the head, shoulders, arms and hands, chest, stomach, hips, legs, knees and then finally the backs of your feet. This usually lasts between 45 minutes to an hour. A short treatment lasts approximately 30 minutes and is used to target specific issues such as lower back pain. Depending on your issue you can choose to either lie on the therapy bed or sit in a chair.
During a Reiki treatment you remain fully clothed, with or without a blanket. Treatment can be given with hands on or off the body, if you prefer not to be touched, and no oils or creams are used.
